Tajikistan said Tuesday it was seriously concerned about the situation in the Gaza Strip and urged the parties involved in the conflict to resume peace talks as early as possible.
The Arab-Israeli conflict cannot be solved by resorting to military force, according to a statement issued by the Tajik Foreign Ministry.
Several hundred people have been killed and thousands wounded in the 11-day conflict in the Gaza Strip, which is threatened by a severe humanitarian disaster, the statement said.
All relevant sides should stop fighting unconditionally and immediately, paving the way for a return to the negotiating table, it urged.
The ministry emphasized that Tajikistan firmly supports all diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the clashes through peaceful means.
The Red Cross says between 580 and 600 people have been killed and some 3,000 wounded since Israel began air raids on Gaza on Dec. 27 aimed at ending rocket attacks launched by the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas. Source:Xinhua
