A packed passenger aircraft bound for a popular Philippine tourist island made emergency landing soon after it took off from Manila airport Wednesday morning, the airline company said. The three dozens people on board were all safe.
The ATR 72-500 plane, belonged to domestic budget airline Cebu Pacific Air, returned to the runway of Manila Airport due to engine trouble at around 7:10 local time (2310GMT), some 10 minutes after take-off, the company said in a short statement.
The engine of the 11-months-old Europe-manufactured aircraft will be checked by an international maintenance crew from the airline company and the aircraft's manufacturer, a subsidiary of Airbus' parent company, the statement said.
"All the 53 passengers were given travel vouchers and took another flight to leave Manila two hours later," it said.
Earlier media reports quoted the budget airline's vice president Candice Iyog as saying that one of the pilots noticed "something was wrong" with the right engine and commanded the emergency landing with no untoward incident.
The 5J 893 flight was bound for Caticlan, the gateway airport of the country's most popular tourist destination Boracay island which boasts a long stretch of fine white-sand beach. Source:Xinhua
