An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Wednesday morning, but there was no report of damage or casualty, the local meteorology agency said.
The quake struck at 10:43 Jakarta time (0343GMT) with epicenter at 124 kilometers northwest Ternate of North MAluku and at 88 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.
Indonesia, with over 230 million population and 17,000 islands, sits at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates meet, causing frequent volcanic movements.
