An earthquake with magnitude of 5.1hit eastern parts of Indonesia on Wednesday morning, but no damage or casualty has been reported yet, meteorology agency said here.
The quake struck at 11:44 Jakarta time (0444 GMT) with epicenter at 98 kilometers northwest Kupang of east Nusa Tenggara and at 79 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.
Indonesia, with over 230 million population and 17,000 islands, sits at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
