New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully said on Thursday that the government was not planning to take diplomatic action against Israel over the attacks in Gaza.

He told Radio New Zealand that there were no such plans at the moment, and instead the focus was on supporting the United Nations and stopping the fighting.

McCully said he still thought that it was important not to take sides in the conflict.

Some protesters in New Zealand have criticized the government's stance on the conflict, suggesting actions such as removing a working holiday scheme for young Israelis or cutting ties with the Israeli ambassador, who is based in Canberra.
