Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso launched his two-day visit to Seoul on Sunday to seek closer economic cooperation between Japan and South Korea.

During Aso's stay in Seoul, he will meet with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and South Korean entrepreneurs.

The South Korean Presidential Office said Lee will host a special meeting and dinner Sunday for Aso with some 15 Japanese businesspeople accompanying him.

The two leaders will hold their summit meeting on Monday. The two sides are expected to discuss joint efforts to overcome the current economic slump, bilateral economic cooperation, free trade agreement pact and the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula.

"President Lee and Prime Minister Aso will exchange views on a wide range of issues, such as ways to maintain and develop South Korea-Japan relations and boost substantial cooperation in the economic sector, including financial markets," the Presidential Office said earlier.
