Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso on Monday dismissed the opposition's suggestion to dissolve the lower house for a snap general election in exchange for the passage of the fiscal 2009 budget.
Aso's response came after Ichiro Ozawa, chief of the major opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), indicated Sunday that the DPJ would be ready to support the government-proposed budget if the prime minister dissolves the lower house for a general election.
In a news program on Fuji Television, Aso said that the trade-off was "unthinkable."
On Sunday, Ozawa told a TV program on NHK that the DPJ would discuss the budget and related bills on the premise of the dissolution of the lower house and a general election.
