United Nations (UN) goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie has urged Thailand to accept Rohingya refugees as her plea comes amid a series of news reports saying the country ill-treated the migrants, according to local media on Friday.
Jolie's remark was made on Wednesday while she was visiting refugee camps in Thailand's northern province of Mae Hongsorn, where some 110,000 members of the Christian Karen tribe have been given shelter, said the website by The Nation newspaper.
"Visiting Ban Mai Nai Soi and seeing how hospitable Thailand has been to 111,000 mostly Karen and Karenni refugees over the years makes me hope that Thailand will be just as generous to the Rohingya refugees who are now arriving on their shores," Jolie said.
The Rohingya refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh entered Thailand to work or asylum.
