Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Tuesday the government would be ready to keep order at all costs when the anti-government protesters besiege the Government House next week, local media reported.
The protesters from the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship's (UDD), a anti-government body, are planning to hold a mass rally on Feb. 24.
"The government will use all possible means to keep order. The government will use police forces. But if police cannot handle the situation, we will have to use back up from soldiers," the website by The Nation newspaper quoted Suthep as saying.
The deputy premier also ruled out the House dissolution, which is one of the political demands from the UDD-led protesters.
Meanwhile, Suthep denied the allegations by the opposition PheuThai Party that the government had prepared 10,000 police and soldiers to control the demonstrators.
