India's Supreme Court-appointed commission on the Madras High Court violence Friday severely indicted the lawyers and absolved the police of the violent clashes in the court premises in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Feb. 19.

In its report, the one-member Justice BN Srikrishna commission has said that it was the unruly behavior of the lawyers that led to the clashes, which the Supreme Court has forwarded to the Madras High Court for any future action in this regard.

The lawyers, who were protesting the Indian government's refusal to intervene in the Sri Lankan conflict, burnt a police station and a fire engine during the clashes with police

The lawyers have refused to rejoin work despite the Supreme Court's order till the Justice Srikrishna Commission report.

The lawyers wanted the government to intervene in Sri Lanka, in order to help civilians trapped in the war zone to evacute.
