Two Thai civilians were injured in two separate gun attacks by suspected militants in Thailand's southernmost province of Yala on Thursday.

At around 13.15 p.m. local time, in Krongpinang district of Yala, two women on a motorcycle heading to the city of Yala were attacked by two suspected militants, local police told Xinhua Thursday.

After the shooting attack, one of the two women, Laila Poh-ee-tae-da-oh was found severely wounded and sent to a hospital in the city of Yala.

The other woman was not injured in the shooting, but her collarbone was broken after she fell down from the motorbike.

Separately in Yaha district of Yala at 16.30 p.m. local time, two other suspected militants shot a village headman, while he was riding a motorcycle back home. The victim was sent to the district's hospital.

Thailand's deep south comprises the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and 4 districts of Songkla province. Insurgent violence has killed over 3,500 people in this restive South since its resurrection in January 2004.
