Arjun Narsingh KC, spokesperson of the major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) said on Sunday that his party would not join the ruling coalition by any chance.

Nepali Prime Minister and chairman of the ruling party, the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) Prachanda on Saturday hinted a cabinet expansion and expressed his hopes that NC would also join the government.

Speaking at a press meeting in Pokhara, some 140 km west of Nepali capital Kathmandu, KC rejected speculations over the chances of the NC joining the government, local news website eKantipur reported.

"For the NC, joining the coalition will be like signing on one's own death certificate," he said.

He said NC would give priorities to the prime ministerial system based on the parliamentary system in the new constitution, saying that tyranny will regain its head if the power is centered on a specific person, Nepali national news agency RSS reported.

The UCPN-M emerged from the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections held in April, 2008, as the single largest party and led the formation of the first republic government in August. However, the second largest party, NC did not join the government led by the UCPN-M.
