The security agencies have sounded a high alert in India-controlled Kashmir and asked their men to remain extra vigilant in wake of Lashkar-e-Toiba's threat of carrying out deadly attacks in the region, reported a local daily Rising Kashmir Friday.
The security apparatus across India-controlled Kashmir has been beefed up following the five-day long encounters in Shamasbari forest range of Kupwara, close to line-of control, said the newspaper.
Indian police and paramilitary troopers have started intense patrolling and increased security around their headquarters and other vulnerable installations in the region, said the paper.
The newspaper has quoted Inspector General of paramilitary force in the region, D.K. Pathak saying the level of alertness has been increased in wake of the infiltration attempts and threats issued by Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Adequate security measures have been taken to thwart any militant strikes in the Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, the newspaper said.
Three days ago a Lashkar spokesman had threatened that the group will carry out more lethal attacks on the troops in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
An Indian army officer and seven soldiers along with 17 Muslim militants were killed in a five-day fighting that started last weekend in the Kupwara region near the Line of Control in India-controlled Kashmir.
Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba militant group has claimed responsibility for sending gunmen in the fight.
