The South Korean prosecution said Wednesday that its investigation team on a bribery scandal involving the family of former President Roh Moo-hyun sent a written interview questionnaire to the ex-president.
"As a courtesy to the former president and to shorten the time for the actual interrogation, we decided to deliver a written questionnaire on key disputed areas of the investigation," Hong Man-pyo, head of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's investigation planning division, was quoted as saying by a local TV channel.
The prosecution sent the questionnaire after consulting Moon Jae-in, a confidant and a former chief of staff to Roh, the prosecutor said.
The questionnaire is focused on the money Roh's family and close aides received and whether the former president was aware of it, local news channel YTN said.
The chief investigator said the prosecution expects the response would return by the weekend, after which it plans to set the summons date.
Investigators allege Roh's wife, Kwon Yang-sook, and his son accepted around 6 million U.S. dollars from Park Eon-cha, head of shoe manufacturer Taekwang Industry, during his five-year presidential term and suspect Roh was the intended recipient of the money.
Roh already made a public confession that his wife received money from Park, who is charged with bribing former government officials with money worth some million U.S. dollars.
