The International Atomic Energy Agency would support Mongolia's plans for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, the organization's leader said Thursday.
"The draft of the Mongolian government's law on the use of uranium and the development of nuclear power is good and the IAEA will offer aid to Mongolia in the field," Mohamed ElBaradei, the IAEA director general, said during a meeting with Mongolian Prime Minister Sanjaa Bayar.
Bayar said Mongolia would use its nuclear energy in peace.
Mongolia hopes the IAEA will help it develop a report concerning the economic and technical aspects of constructing a nuclear power plant, Bayar said.
The IAEA last year sent a working group to Mongolia that gave advice on the draft of a law concerning the uses of uranium and the development of nuclear power.
Mongolia plans to establish its nuclear power plant in 2021. The government earlier this year signed an agreement with Russia to mine uranium in Mongolia, local media reported.
