Indian police Saturday arrested two dozen people in Tamil Nadu who tried to burn Indian and Sri Lankan national flags to protest the killing of Tamil civilians in the on-going fighting in the island nation, said police.
Eighteen people were arrested in Chennai and seven in Thanjavur of the southern state, as protesters gathered outside government buildings and threatening to put the flags on fire, said police.
The protesters belonged to two little known Tamil groups, the Tamil National Socialist Party and Tamil Nationalist Liberation Movement, said police.
They said they were angry because the Indian government has not done enough to prevent the "killings" of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan government forces are closing in on a small strip of jungle still held by Tamil Tiger leader V. Prabhakaran with his surviving forces.
