A Thai schoolteacher in the southern province of Yala was gunned down by a group of suspected insurgents on early Tuesday morning, police said.
The teacher, Nattapol Janae, 39, was attacked as he was driving a motorbike from his house to school in a village of Talingchan sub-district, Ban-nang-satar district of Yala, the Thai News Agency reported.
Following the attack by the suspected militants, Yala's education office ordered a closure of five schools of Talingchan sub-district for security among teachers and students.
The country's deep South comprises mainly the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and some parts of Songkla province. Over 3,500 people have been killed in insurgent violence in the deep South since January 2004. Source:Xinhua
