Thailand's Police chief Patcharawat Wongsuwan Monday has ordered the Metropolitan Police Bureau to be prepared to stringently enforce laws during a new anti-government mass rally planned by the Thai anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on June 27.
Metropolitan police used only shields to control the anti-government protestors during the scattered riots in mid-April in Bangkok, while many people criticized the police of being ineffective, he said, the Bangkok Post's website reported.
This has been taken into consideration, said Pol. Gen. Patcharawat said.
He had assigned assistant police chief Adul Saengsingkaew to draw up a strict security plan to deal with the UDD demonstration, but police must still abide by international standards and orders of the Administrative Court.
