At least 12 people were killed and six sustained injuries when a truck in which they were travelling turned turtle near Amreli district in the western Indian state of Gujarat Saturday.

A senior police official said that the mishap took place early Saturday morning when the driver of the speeding truck lost control on the on the Badra-Hingorala Highway in the district and overturned.

"The mishap claimed the lives of 12 laborers, while six people including the driver of the vehicle were injured. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital," he said.
