Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday urged the international community to fulfill pledges of assistance to Pakistan in its endeavors to win the hearts and minds of displaced persons from the country's northwest.

During his meeting with an NGO delegation, Gilani said that the people of Swat and Malakand Division of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) needed immediate help at this critical juncture when Pakistan was fighting war against militancy and terrorism till its complete elimination from its territory.

The NGO, Pugwash Conference, has planned to organize a series of meetings on Pakistan's role against terrorism, Pakistan and Afghanistan relations, U.S. economic assistance and Pakistan's vision of regional relations in South Asia. It is also involved in track-two diplomacy between Pakistan and India.

While welcoming their initiatives for holding these meetings, Gilani said that this would greatly help in creating better understanding and remove misperception about Pakistan in the west.

He said that early resumption of composite dialogue between Pakistan and India was imperative to address the longstanding issues resulting in tension between the two countries, i.e. Kashmir dispute as well as the water dispute.

Gilani assured the Pugwash delegation of his government's sincerity in proceeding with the dialogue process and for maintaining cordial bilateral relations with all its neighbors, including India.

The Pakistani prime minister, while briefing the visitors on the success of ongoing military operation, also called upon the United States to write off Pakistan's debt, fast track the Kerry Lugar and ROZ's bills through the Congress and to enhance the level of intelligence sharing.
