Police and garment workers continued fight on the second day on Sunday over the workers' outstanding payment, leaving another worker dead and 100 wounded in police firing at Savar, about 30 kms north of capital city Dhaka.

Witnesses said the workers from about 40 garment factories blocked the traffic on Tangail-Ashulia road on Sunday morning protesting the killing of their fellow worker on Saturday.

As police tried to disperse the workers at about 11 a.m. local time, they got furious and pelted brickbats at the law enforcers. At one stage police fired bullets on the workers, leaving one dead on the spot, an eyewitness said.

At least 100 people including 20 policemen were injured during the violent clashes on Sunday. Identity of the victim could not be known immediately.

Al-Amin, worker of Suhi Industrial Park, who was shot and wounded during the Saturday's clash, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Additional forces of the elite-force Rapid Action Battalion and police have been deployed in the troubled area.

Industrial unrest in Bangladesh's promising export-oriented apparel sector is almost common as the garment workers stage frequent protests to realize their pay and other financial benefits from their owners.

Bangladesh annually earns over 14 billion U.S. dollars by exporting garments mainly to European countries and the United States.
