An army officer was killed and three other officers were injured in a recoilless rifle shell explosion during training firing in northern Bangladesh on Sunday, private news agency UNB reported.
The news agency quoting sources said the explosion took place on Sunday noon when the training was going on at the firing range of the School of Infantry and Practice Field at the Jalalabad cantonment in northeastern Sylhet region, about 241 km away from the capital Dhaka.
"At one stage, an RR shell, weighing 24 kg, exploded while being launched from a recoilless rifle at around 1 p.m. (local time)," one source was quoted by UNB as saying.
Lieutenant Mainul of the 17th East Bengal Regiment died instantly while three other officers were injured in the explosion, the news agency said.
