More than 3,000 people have been killed in Pakistan's tribal areas during terror activities, according to a report made public Wednesday by the secretariat of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The 21-page report of monetary and human losses done by terrorism and extremism in the tribal areas revealed that damages of more than two billion U.S. dollars were done by terrorism in the tribal areas.

Tribal areas suffered most as compared to other parts of the country, the report said, adding that the Bajaur agency was the worst hit area where 600 people were killed.

The wake of terrorism claimed 500 lives in Kurram Agency, South and North Waziristan, it said. The number of people wounded in terror incident is over 3,000.

According to the report, the initial property losses are estimated up to 103 million U.S. dollars whereas the losses estimated in economic and social sectors are 119 million dollars and 109 million dollars respectively.

Extremism takes its toll in the agriculture sector also in the form of 188-million-dollar losses. Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) expenses are estimated at 572 million U.S. dollars.

The report disclosed that militants are equipped with latest weapons whereas in contrast of this, security forces have outdated arms insufficient for retaliatory action against militants.

The personnel of security forces are getting salary of 3,500 rupees (about 44 U.S. dollars) per month while militants getting 10,000 rupees (about 125 U.S. dollars) to 15,000 (about 187 U.S. dollars) per month.

The report termed this major inequality as the basic reason of unrest in these areas. About two billion U.S. dollars are needed for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the tribal areas, it added.
