A moderate earthquake with magnitude of 5.3 struck eastern parts of Indonesia on Thursday, with no report of damage or casualty, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.
The quake hit at hit 18:29 Jakarta time (1129 GMT ) with epicenter at 141 kms southwest Tahuna of North Sualwesi and 50 kms in depth, the agency said.
Indonesia, homed by over 230 million people, is laid on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called the Pacific ring of Fire, where two continental plates, stretching from western hemisphere to Japan, meet that often causes seismic and volcanic movements.
