United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Myanmar's former capital of Yangon Friday morning to start his two-day official visit to the country.
It is Ban's second visit to Myanmar since May last year.
Ban will proceed his trip to the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw to meet Myanmar top leader Senior-General Than Shwe, who is Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council.
A broad range of issues including long standing concerns to the UN and the international community as well as Aung San Suu Kyi'sare expected to be discussed during Ban's visit
On the occasion, Ban will also meet with leaders of 10 legal political parties and will inspect the reconstruction in cyclone-hit areas.
Ban's visit comes a week after his special envoy Ibrahim Gambari briefly visited Nay Pyi Taw on June 26-27.
Ban's trip also came amid a trial against Aung San Suu Kyi, her two maids -- Khin Khin Win and Win Ma Ma, and U.S. citizen John William Yettaw in connection with Yettaw's secret intrusion into Aung San Suu Kyi's then restricted lakeside residence on May 3 night by swimming through the Inya Lake, he was arrested at dawn on May 6 when he swam back after spending two days there.
Aung San Suu Kyi, 64, General Secretary of the National League for Democracy (NLD), is charged with violating her terms of house arrest by accommodating Yettaw.
The political leader's five and a half years' house arrest, which was the third, was lifted on May 26 but she continued to be detained to face the legal trial in this connection which began on May 18 in Yangon's Insein Prison.
Ban last visited Myanmar in late May 2008 after it was struck by cyclone Nargis early in the month which inflicted the heaviest casualties and massive infrastructure damages.
