The terrorism charges by police for blockades of two Bangkok's airports by leaders and other active members of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) late last year are too much and groundless, Suriyasai Katasila, PAD coordinator said in Bangkok on Sunday.
On Saturday, the police issued a summons for the PAD leaders and some other PAD key members to question them on alleged involvement in the seizure of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports during a mass rally to oust the then Somchai Wongsawat-led Government.
Totally 27 PAD persons will need to report to the police on July 16 as among these summonsed is Kasit Piromya, Thai Foreign Minister.
After consulting with lawyers, however, all of the accused PAD persons will go to report to the police, said Suriyasai, a Thai language news agency, Krungthep Turakij Online reported.
"We will fight the charges under justice procedure and we guarantee of not escaping," Suriyasai said, a Thai language news agency, Krungthep Turakij Online reported.
He said the PAD protestors at the two airports had no intention to create any chaos, while the PAD people only wanted to bring down the then illegitimate government.
"We are confident in our innocence as we exercised our constitutional rights," he said.
Meanwhile, Suriyasai said it is not necessary for Kasit to resign since at this stage it is concerned only with the summons, moreover, the police allegations are too much.
In a related development, Foreign Minister Kasit is not worried about the charges against him, said Chawanan Intharakomalkul, secretary of the foreign minister.
On July 16 if the minister is too busy, he might go to report to the police earlier than that scheduled date, Chawanan said.
The police summons, which dated on July 1, is in regard to a complaint, having filed by the Airports of Thailand (AOT) against the PAD leaders and other key PAD members on suspicion of invasion and destruction of property, inciting unrest and an act of terrorism, resulting in the AOT temporarily operational shutdown.
The other alleged offences include violation of the states of emergency dated Nov. 29, Dec. 1 and Dec. 1-3.
