India will give comprehensive security cover to its rich historical monuments around the country to protect them from damages caused by unruly visitors, said the semi-official Press Trust of India on Sunday.
The Archaeological Survey of India, which is responsible for conservation of the monuments, has invited bids from private security agencies for guarding historical buildings in the capital and other places frequented by tourists, said the report.
While some monuments are guarded by private agents, national heritage sites like Taj Mahal and Red Fort are guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force, a paramilitary force under the Home Ministry of India.
Due to its long civilization, India has one of the richest heritages of historical monuments in the world.
