Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has urged to reclaim more land to fully solve the country's food problem, the official KCNA news agency said on Monday.
The top leader inspected a reclamation site on Taegye Islet, North Phyongan province, where a big project is under way that reclaims land from the sea, the KCNA said, without giving the date of the visit.
Kim was very satisfied with the project, saying "this is a precious fruition of the persevering will of the Korean people to build a great prosperous powerful nation in this land with their own efforts and technology at any cost and a striking demonstration of the inexhaustible mental power of the heroic Korean people single-mindedly united around the party."
He emphasized the country should enlarge the area of the land -- "its eternal treasure," for the prosperity of the country.
Kim once inspected the project in June 2008. The DPRK, which has suffered food shortage in recent years, has strived to solve its food problem.
