Chief nuclear negotiators of South Korea and Japan had "in-depth" discussions on joint actions towards the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), South Korea's foreign ministry said Monday.
The discussions on the DPRK nuclear issue included implementation of the UN Security Council resolution, which urged UN member nations to impose tougher financial sanctions and an arms embargo on the DPRK, foreign ministry spokesman Moon Tae-young said.
During the discussions, South Korea's envoy Wi Sung-lac and his Japanese counterpart Akitaka Saiki also compared their notes on the DPRK's firing of seven ballistic missiles over the weekend, according to the ministry.
In a related move, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei, chairman of the six-party talks, is scheduled to visit Seoul from July 12-14 in a bid to kick-start the disarmament negotiations.
