A severe earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale occurred in southern Sumatra, Indonesia 9:58 a.m. (0158GMT), according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory on Thursday.
The epicenter was initially determined to be 2.6 degrees south latitude and 101.8 degrees east longitude, about 240 kilometers southeast of Padang, Indonesia.
