An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted Papua province at the easternmost of Indonesia Thursday evening, Meteorology and Geophysiscs Agency said in Jakarta.
The quake occured at 19:11 Jakarta time (1211 GMT) with the epicenter 160 km southwest Jayapura of the province and 91 km under sea bed, Beny Hendrawanto with the agency told Xinhua.
The quake was felt at 3 to 4 MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) at Jayapura, 2 to 3 MMI at Sentani and Gengen, he said.
Indonesia with over 230 million people sits on a quake-prone zone called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where two continental platescauaing frequent seismic and volcanic movements.
