Vietnamese president to attend APEC summit in Singapore

Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet will lead a high-level delegation to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Singapore from Nov. 14 to 15,said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

Under the theme of "Sustaining Growth, Connecting the Region", APEC leaders will discuss measures to address the impacts of the global economic crisis, prepare for the economic recovery and promote international economic integration at the summit, said ministry spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga at a press conference.

President Triet will also attend the ASEAN-U.S. Summit in Singapore on Nov. 15. At the summit, ASEAN leaders and the United States president will review the ASEAN-U.S. dialogue, work out direction to enhance the relationship between ASEAN and the United States and discuss international and regional issues of common concerns, said Nga.

Following the summit, Vietnamese President will make a state visit to Singapore from Nov. 16 to 17 at the invitation of Singaporean President Sellapan Ramanathan.

During the visit, President Triet is expected to hold talks with President Sellapan Ramanathan, other high-ranking Singaporean officials and some businessmen of Singapore.

President Triet will exchange views with Singaporean officials on measures to further enhance the comprehensive bilateral cooperation, particularly in economy, trade and investment, and international and regional issues of mutual interest, said Nga.

Triet will also attend the Vietnam-Singapore business forum, said the spokeswoman.
