Political developments in Fiji will not affect tourism: Tourism Fiji

Recent developments in Fiji this week to expel the New Zealand and Australian diplomats in will not affect the tourism industry as it is a "Friendly People's Business", said the official Tourism Fiji on Friday.
"This is a political issue and Tourism Fiji does not see it impacting the country's tourism industry with business as usual as Fiji is well placed geographically within the South Pacific," it said.
With the slow running of Fiji's sugar industry tourism has become a number one financial earner that cannot be shattered or disturbed further as many families depend on it for a living.
Tourism Fiji said they will remain focused on goals to transform challenges into opportunities, meeting the challenges and demands with accountability paving the way for a vibrant Tourism Industry.
Tourism Fiji senior executive Patick Wong said on Friday Fiji has always been a safe holiday destination and will continue to be.
"Under the present government there has not been any restrictions unrest or actions that has impacted on visitors to our shores with their movements," he said.
He added that the family segment from Fiji's traditional markets, Australia, New Zealand continues to make up a large portion of the island nations visitor arrivals.
And countries like China are looking at sending more tourists to Fiji.
Many families return year after year confirming that Fiji meets their expectations, including being safe, he added.
Tourism Fiji will focus on marketing and promoting the diversity of "Fiji Product" and have many travel writers, Journalist and travel agents/consultants visiting Fiji this month and early December under Tourism Fiji's public relation's promotional programs.
Meanwhile, Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said on Friday that New Zealand and Australia have continuously tried to jeopardize Fiji's progress and they needed to cease.
