Philippine president to relinquish ruling party chairmanship

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is set to relinquish the chairmanship of ruling party Lakas-Kampi CMD (Lakas-Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino-Christian Muslim Democrats).
At a media briefing in the presidential palace Malacanang on Wednesday, Secretary of Executive Eduardo Ermita announced that Mrs. Arroyo will turn over the position to Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro during the Lakas-Kampi CMD national convention on Nov. 19.
The convention is expected to formalize the nomination of Teodoro as the party's standard bearer in the May 2010 elections.
