Myanmar constructs dozens of new shopping complexes in new capital

Myanmar local private companies have constructed 42 new shopping complexes in the new capital of Nay Pyi Taw, aimed at attracting more visitors to the city, sources with the construction circle said on Sunday.

The shopping complexes, located in the Oathara Thiri district, will be built by the four construction companies namely Naung tong, Tatlan, Moe Kyalzin and A-1, the sources said.

In Nay Pyi Taw, some modernized buildings such as governmental departments, residential quarters, private hospital, private bank, Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and Shwe Pazun bakery house have been constructed, it added.

Meanwhile, other construction companies groups are also implementing the first international standard 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional cinemas projects in the capital, earlier report said.

The 2D cinema, which can accommodates 300 audiences with modern coffee shop attached, have been built as the first phase of the project and the construction of 3D cinema, amusement center and indoor game center will be followed as the next phase.

The first private-run international-level shopping center , "Junction Center - Nay Pyi Taw" was built by the Shwe Taung Development company and opened in August this year.

The biggest shopping center in the city, the two-story building comprises Ocean super center, Game City amusement center, fashion shops, electronic and computer related accessories, sport accessories, coffee and bakery shops and mini-theatre.

Myanmar officially designated the new administrative capital as a district-level city, deleting it as a township from Mandalay division, the other report said.

The district-level Nay Pyi Taw is now made up of eight townships, of which Pyinmana, Lewe and Tatkon have been in existence before, while Oathara Thiri, Dekkina Thiri, Poppha Thiri, Zapu Thiri, Zeyar Thiri are newly added.

Land plots in the Poppha Thiri township are being allotted through luck draw system to government employees who have served for at least two years in the new capital government offices.

Myanmar moved its administrative capital from Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw in November 2005 which is located between middle mountain range of Bago Yoma and eastern mountain range of Shan Yoma.

It covers an area of 7,054.37 square-kilometers and has a population of 924,608.
