A militant was gunned down and another arrested by Indian army Tuesday in a gunfight close to line-of-control (LoC) in India-controlled Kashmir, defense officials said.

The gunfight broke out early morning in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara, 145 km northwest of Srinagar, the summer capital of India-controlled Kashmir.

"We have captured a militant alive today in Tangdhar sector and killed another one, when they were trying to infiltrate into our area. Our vigilant troops have once again succeeded in foiling an infiltration bid," said Srinagar based Defense spokesperson, Lt. Col. J.S. Brar.

The arrested militant has been identified as Tanvir Ahmad, 23, alias Anas of Manshera from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.

The defense spokesman in a statement to press said Ahmad claimed to have received arms training in a Muzaffarabad camp for four months.

The slain militant has also been identified as a foreign national.

The spokesman also claimed to have recovered two assault rifles and modern gadgetry used by militants from the possession of militants.

On Monday two Indian army troopers and a militant were killed in a gunfight between militants and Indian army in Keran sector of Kupwara- around 140 km northwest of Srinagar.
