Philippine government troops have captured a leftist rebels camp following a clash in Surigao del Sur province in southern Philippines.

Major Michelle Anayron, spokesperson for the military's 4th Division, told reporters Monday that soldiers of the 26th Infantry Battalion were figured in an 20-minute exchange of gunfire with the New People's Army (NPA) Sunday in an area between Sibagat and Bayugan mountains.

There were no casualties on the government side.

The NPA, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has been waging a guerrilla campaign in the countryside for four decades.
