Ibrahim Ismail Iskandar was proclaimed as the new Sultan, or the Malay Ruler, of Johor State in Malaysia on Saturday shortly after his father and former king of Malaysia died.
Ibrahim Ismail took his oath as the Sultan of Johor State and pledged to rule with fairness, justice and compassion, according to Bernama, Malaysia's national news agency.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Johor Baharu palace Saturday morning.
Ibrahim Ismail's father, the late Sultan Iskandar Ismail, passed away Friday night at the age of 77. The Sultan, installed as the 8th Supreme Head of the country on Nov. 15, 1984, left behind his wife and 10 children.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak cut short his visit to India following the demise of the late Sultan, arriving at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport early Saturday.
