An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Solomon Islands at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday Hong Kong time (2237 GMT), according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory on Tuesday.
The epicenter was initially determined to be at 6.1 degrees south latitude and 154.4 degrees east longitude, about 720 kilometers west-northwest of Hiniara, Solomon Islands, it said.
