Sri Lanka's Supreme Court on Monday decided to consider a fundamental rights petition concerning the personal safety of opposition parliamentarians.
A 3-member Supreme Court bench instructed the Attorney General to consider the case and to report back to court on March 5 having consulted the Defense Ministry Secretary and the police chief.
Some 18 opposition parliamentarians filed court action as their personal security came to be withdrawn from Feb. 9 with the dissolution of parliament to face fresh elections.
The election is scheduled to be held on April 8.
