Former Nepali Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala has met with visiting United Nations Under Secretary General for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe at his residence in Kathmandu, according to local media on Thursday.

Koirala, who has been in bed for a few months due to respiratory problems, held talks with the U.N. official for 10 minutes on Wednesday.

According to Thursday's The Kathmandu Post, Dr. Arjun Karki, who carried out a regular check-up on Koirala, said there was no immediate need to take the octogenarian leader to abroad for further treatment.

"It's obvious for him to have short breath due to his old age," said Dr. Karki, adding "but his condition is not critical now."
