General Electric commits to help improve Indonesia's rural health

General Electric (GE) announced Thursday it will help the Indonesian government improve the country's rural health environment through its global healthcare innovation push called "healthymagination".

The commitment is a part of GE's 3 billion U.S. dollars spending over the next six years on healthcare innovation globally that will deliver better care to more people at lower cost.

In addition, the company will commit 2 billion dollars of financing and 1 billion dollars in related GE technology and content to drive healthcare information technology and health in rural and underserved areas.

These investments are the foundation of GE's healthymagination initiative, which is built on the global commitments of reducing costs, improving quality and expanding access for millions of people.

"We want to help the Indonesian government strengthen its healthcare delivery to the 55 percent of Indonesian population who are living in the rural areas through our healthcare innovations and best practices," Michael J. Barber, GE's Vice President of Healthymagination, told reporters.

Healthymagination will draw on resources from across GE, including GE Healthcare, GE Capital, GE Water, NBC Universal, the GE Global Research Center as well as the GE Foundation, the philanthropic arm of GE.
