Suspected militants fired a rocket on a tanker carrying oil for NATO troops in Afghanistan, in northwest Pakistan's Khyber tribal agency on Wednesday, residents said.

The tanker caught fire after hit by the rocket at Landikotal, the main city in Khyber agency, which is the main route for supplies to over 100,000 U.S-led NATO forces in Afghanistan. No one was hurt in the attack but the tanker was destroyed.

Residents said that traffic on the main road between Afghanistan and Pakistan was blocked after the attack.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. But several militant groups including Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are active in the region.

Oil tankers and trucks carrying supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan also come under attack in Khyber agency. Some 70 percent supplies for NATO forces are transported through Pakistan.

Last year the U.S. struck deal with Russia and several Central Asian states for alternate supply route due to attacks on supplies vehicles in Pakistan.
