Indian Cabinet on Friday approved a draft law amendment allowing death sentence for hijackers and shooting down of hijacked aircraft used as a terror weapon to hit vital target.

The Cabinet of Ministers gave approval to the amendment to the Anti-Hijacking Act 1982, that will award capital punishment to those found guilty of hijacking a plane for terrorist purpose, an act of aggression against the country, sources said.

The amendment will also provide a legal backing for shooting down a hijacked aircraft which is used to target vital installations, said the sources.
