Turkish president begins four-day visit to Pakistan

Turkish President Abdullah Gul was accorded a very warm welcome when he arrived in Islamabad Tuesday on a four-day state visit to Pakistan.
He was received at the airport by Interior Minister Rehman Malik and high ranking officials.
Twenty-one gun boomed when the Turkish president alighted from his aircraft.
A smartly turned out contingent of the Pakistan air force presented guard of honor to the distinguished guest and children of Pak-Turk school Islamabad and two other children attired in traditional dress presented bouquets to him.
The route from the airport to Islamabad was decorated with buntings and welcome banners.
Speaking to reporters on his arrival, the Turkish president said that both countries enjoy warm and emotional relations.
He said that he feels the home-like environment in Pakistan and is very much happy to visit the country.
Gul said that Turkish investors are eager to invest in the energy sector to overcome the power crisis in Pakistan. "We have common understanding and excellent relations and we want more economic and trade cooperation with Pakistan," he added.
He also lauded the role of Pakistan in the war on terror and said that his visit aims to congratulate the people and the army of Pakistan on their successful struggle against terrorists. He said that he sees a bright future for Pakistan.
The Turkish president is accompanied by cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, senior officials and chief executives of leading Turkish companies from engineering, construction, energy, textile and manufacturing sectors.
During his visit, Gul will hold talks with Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest besides discussing ways and means to give further boost to ties between the two countries in various fields especially to overcome the power crisis in Pakistan.
The two countries are likely to sign a number of bilateral agreements and MoUs during the visit to boost cooperation in different fields.
At a special ceremony, Zardari will confer Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest national award. He will also be awarded honorary degree of doctorate in international relations by Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.
Gul will also visit the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore where Gilani will hold a civic reception in his honor.
