"Such an event did not take place," a defense ministry official said, when asked about the accusation reported by DPRK's state media that South Korean soldiers intruded into the DMZ and fired guns toward a civilian police post in the DPRK.
Pyongyang denounced the alleged move as a "premeditated provocation."
The two Koreas remain technically at war with each other following the 1950-53 Korean War that ended with a truce, but not a formal peace treaty, with the heavily fortified DMZ as a buffer zone separating the warring neighbors.
