Three shopping malls were evacuated in a posh area in the Indian national capital Sunday, following a bomb threat, a senior police official said.

"The malls were evacuated after an anonymous caller told the police that explosives have been kept in DLF Mall, Select Citywalk and Metropolitan Mall in Saket in the south of the capital. A thorough search is being conducted, but it seems that the call was nothing but a hoax. But, we are not leaving any chances," the official said.

A search has been launched to track down the caller, he said.

A series of similar anonymous calls were made to the police Saturday, which claimed that bombs were places at Indira Gandhi International Airport and the city railway station, but the calls turned out to be hoax.

India has stepped up security measures in New Delhi after some Western countries issued a travel advisory warning of possible terrorist attacks in the Indian capital last week.
