Moderate quake hits off India's Nicobar Islands

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit the sea near India's Nicobar Islands at around 07:05 GMT (01:05 pm local time) on Sunday, said the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter was monitored at 7.717 degrees north latitude and 91.897 degrees east longitude with the depth of 35 km.
Earlier, the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services reported a 7.8 degree earthquake on the Richter scale off the western coast of Andaman and Nicobar islands in the Indian Ocean, which struck at around 12:56 a.m. local time (21:26 GMT Saturday) but no damage or casualty has been reported.
