The Philippine government on Monday condemned the killing of a radio commentator in Nueva Vizcaya, the first under the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
"We condemn all killings, especially of journalists ... Any murder especially of journalists is an impingement on press freedom," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in an interview with reporters at the New Executive Building (NEB) in Malacanang.
He made the remarks in response to the death of Jose Daguio, a reporter and commentator of Radyo Natin. Daguio was shot at close range inside his house and died later in hospital.
Lacierda said the resolution of extrajudicial killings ranks high among the government's concerns.
He said Malacanang had left the case with Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.
