Troops were sent to guard the sky- train stations across Bangkok on Tuesday after two bombing attacks occurred in Bangkok late last month, Bangkok Post reported on Tuesday.
The troops were deployed by the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES). On Monday CRES also assigned soldiers to subway stations.
CRES wants to make sure all spots vulnerable to attack are under protection, Bangkok Post quoted National Security Council secretary-general Thawil Pliensri as saying.
Vithoon Hathairattana, operation director of the Bangkok Metro Public Company Limited, operator of the subway, said the company had also stepped up security after being warned by the CRES of possible sabotage. He said that passengers are now subjected to bag/purse check before they are allowed to get into the station.
CRES announced its new security measures on Friday, after state- run National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) headquarter was attacked by an M79 grenade on August 31 and an explosion near a duty-free shop, King Power complex, in central Bangkok on August 27.
CRES classified the places prone to attack into three levels. Royal palaces, important people's residences and transport terminals are at the first level and on full-scale alert.
